LITHUANIAN COMPOSERS' UNION (LCU) is creative public organization, which unites professional composers and musicologists of Lithuania. It was founded in Kaunas in 1941, by composer Juozas Gruodis and his colleagues. Nowadays LCU counts 103 composers and 62 musicologists - these are the people that create music of various genres and write texts about it. Objective - to spread, stimulate, support and promote professional Lithuanian music, musicological thought in Lithuania and abroad.

LCU STRUCTURE:

Lithuanian Music Information and Publishing Centre (MILC)
Founded by Lithuanian Composers' Union in 1995. The key task of MILC is to spread Lithuanian composers' music in Lithuania and abroad; ensure its reachability to every interested music professionals; make it performed and researched more often; realize ambitious plans of Lithuanian music export projects, that contain not only academic, but also jazz, pop, electronic realms of music.

Music Foundation of Lithuanian Composers' Union
Non-profit organization, which main tasks are charity and support, looking for funding options in Lithuania and abroad for areas described by Charity and support law. Main purpose of the Foundation - provide charity support to LCU members and support programs of LCU, its sections' and its members'.

Musicologists' Section
A division of the LCU. It links such LCU members as musicologists, music critics, ethnomusicologists, also it stimulates the musicological creativity, and triggers researches of professional musical culture. The section's activity is coordinated by its chairman (and vicechairman) and the bureau consisting of seven musicologists. Musicologists' Section initiates and coordinates national and international programs of Lithuanian musical culture researches, endorsement, communication and spread.

Youth Section of the LCU
A division of the LCU, which unites young and active composers and musicologists - candidates to the actual members of the Union. The main focus of its activity is the contemporary music festival "Druskomanija", which has been running for 25 years. The Youth Section is also involved in organization of other music events, such as New Opera Action, Music Laboratory Network "The Process", etc.

WHAT ARE LCU ACTIVITIES?

LCU organizes:
- contemporary music festival "Gaida" in Vilnius (artistic director Remigijus Merkelys);
- festival of electronic music and media art "Jauna Muzika" (artistic director Martynas Bialobžeskis);
- chamber music festival "Muzikos Ruduo" in various regions of Lithuania (artistic director Robertas Bliškevičius);
- contemporary music festival "Iš Arti" in Kaunas (artistic director Zita Bružaitė);
- contemporary music festival "Druskomanija" in Druskininkai and other towns of Lithuania (artistic director Dominykas Digimas);
- composers' portrait concerts;
- musicological symposiums and conferences;
- composition competitions;
- publishing of books about Lithuanian classical and contemporary music. 

In addition, LCU nominates candidates for national and international awards and honorary titles, national scholarships and state pensions.

LCU is a member of ISCM (International Society for Contemporary Music), IMS (International Musicological Society), and ECPNM (European Conference of Promoters of New Music).
